typography

For the past week we have been working on typography in illustrator.  in the picture you can see four distinct types of typography. They are stacked text, negative text, ligature, and symbol replacement.  I had a fairly easy time with this project although the negative text was a little confusing.
Tools I used
  • text tool
  • rectangle tool
  • fill tool
  • divide tool
  • select tools
  • add/subtract from shape area tool
  • place tool
  • live trace tool
  • pen tool
To make the negative text I first drew the box with the rectangle tool then I typed the alphabet and placed it with the select tool.  For a couple of them I also added a shape with the pen tool typed a letter and subtracted it from the shape area.  for the stacked text I wrote a word copied and positioned it bellow then combined the words.  for the symbol replace I typed all the other letters then I used the place tool to put my object used the live trace tool to make it a drawing and placed it.  For the ligature I wrote a word positioned the letters and used the add to shape area tool to combine them.
I give myself a 9/8 participation/product grade as I worked hard but it's far from perfect.  I fee like I'm getting the hang of illustrator.  I still have a lot to learn but I'm not as confused as I was.
