typography

For the past week we have been working on typography in illustrator.  in the picture you can see four distinct types of typography. They are stacked text, negative text, ligature, and symbol replacement.  I had a fairly easy time with this project although the negative text was a little confusing.
Tools I used
  • text tool
  • rectangle tool
  • fill tool
  • divide tool
  • select tools
  • add/subtract from shape area tool
  • place tool
  • live trace tool
  • pen tool
To make the negative text I first drew the box with the rectangle tool then I typed the alphabet and placed it with the select tool.  For a couple of them I also added a shape with the pen tool typed a letter and subtracted it from the shape area.  for the stacked text I wrote a word copied and positioned it bellow then combined the words.  for the symbol replace I typed all the other letters then I used the place tool to put my object used the live trace tool to make it a drawing and placed it.  For the ligature I wrote a word positioned the letters and used the add to shape area tool to combine them.
I give myself a 9/8 participation/product grade as I worked hard but it's far from perfect.  I fee like I'm getting the hang of illustrator.  I still have a lot to learn but I'm not as confused as I was.

illustrator days 8-12

last week  i finished days 8-12 non illustrator this project was not that difficult for the most part but there were  a couple parts i had a hard time with.
tools used
  • brush
  • pen
  • star
  • eclipse
  • pencil
  • both select tools
  • compound path tool
  • fill tool
  • gradient
  • transparency
  • blend
  • graphic styles
I drew the pear and the hand with the pen tool then used a calligraphy brush on the a and a crayon brush on the pear. i used the rectangle tool to make a rectangle and added a border brush stroke.  I made a  brush stroke out of the orange star and put them around a circle and on a curve line.  The three circle shapes were given their affects using the blend tool. the other circles and shapes are fill with different gradients and graphic styles.
I give myself a 9/9 participation/ product grade because i worked really hard but it could still be better and i could be more focused.

first illustrator project

For our first illustrator project we made this series or drawings referring to a tutorial and our teachers example.  I first made the simple shapes (square , circle etc.) using the shape tools i made the star and triangles by changing settings in the polygon and star tools. I drew one hand with the pencil tool and used the reflect tool to make the other.  the rest of the shapes were made with the pen tool.
Tools I used
shape tools, reflect tool, pencil tool, pen tool.
This project was pretty daunting at first but after i got used to illustrator it wasn't so bad.  I had the hardest time with the pen tool but I eventually figured it out.

I give myself a 9 / 7 (participation/ product) grade because I worked hard but most of the things made with the pen tool could be better.

spaceship

Last friday we finished our second graphics project in illustrator which was this spaceship. We made it by using a tutorial shown to us by our teacher, make a simple spaceship in illustrator.   First I used the eclipse tool to make the body.  Then I made a copy of the body sized it down and took out an anchor point to make the window.  I made the fins by using copies of the body to cut out parts of squares.  The gray exhaust pipe was made by using the rectangle tool and moving/ adding anchor points.  The flames were made by using copies of the body to cut out parts of another part of the main copy and then sizing down one copy to fit inside the other one and changing the color.
Tools I used
Eclipse tool,  Delete/ add anchor point tools, rectangle tool, subtract shape area tool, intercept shape area tool, selection tools star tool.
I honestly had a hard time with this project. i think the hardest thing for me was finding my way around illustrator and understanding the tutorial.  thankfully i had a friend who was great at this and helped me.  it took me about three days for me to complete this project.

I would give myself about a 9/7 (participation/ product grade) because i tried very hard but i could not figure out how to ad the gradient or background. and some things like the exhaust pipe could be tweaked.

pro sports suck

i do not like pro sports.  in my opinion it's a bunch of over payed men running around like little boys.  why this captures the country i don't know.  it's sad. really sad.  really really sad.
